ENGLISH CAMP WITH ROBERTA AND FRIENDS
SMA NU 03 muallimin weleri joined an English
camp which was held by kendal English teachers aliance. It was begun on Sunday,
10 august 2014 and overed on Wednesday, 13 August 2014. It took a place at SMA
N 1 Patean, sukorejo. The participants were teachers and students of senior
high school in kendal region. Mrs. Nurul Laili, an English teacher, and Putri Maya Sari, the eleventh grade student, presented SMA NU 03 MUALLIMIN Weleri
joining the camp.
Not only students and teachers of senior
high school, there were some students from universities also joined that event.
Then, seven native speakers from America and Korea made that event more
interesting. They are volunteers who have a goal to develop their science and
share their expereriences by helping students to learn English in some events
such as an English camp. The members of the native speakers were Steve, Jonathan,
Roberta, Sarah, Justine, Natasha, and Sinwoo Chun.
Four
days, all of participants stayed there. The time was too short actually
in learning English with the native speakers because there are many things that
can be taken from the native speakers. In order to achieve the goal, so the
commitee setted the activities of the camp.
On day 1, the participants did the registration
in the afternoon. Then doing introduction with the native speakers in the
evening and having a little performance at the same time. All of participants
had welcome them enthusiastically and full of enthusiasm.
Day 2, all of participants were divided
into 6 groups for students, and one group of teachers. Each group was guided by
one native speakers. Its goal was to make easier for teachers and students to
learn English with the native speakers. Many experiences were shared, and many
games and interesting learning were showed by the native speakers. Everyone did
not get bored and enjoyed the activities. Then, all of participants had a movie
in the evening. The last, they had discussion group to discuss about the movie.
Day 3, started in the morning, the
participants’ first activity was jogging with the native speakers. They were
faced with beautiful scenery, fresh air, and traditional environment that made
them felt at home. Taking a bath and having breakfast were the second activities before having discussion
group with the native speakers. In that day, they had to create a performance
for the camp fire. Every group fervently expressed their imagination to make a
performance. Then, the time arrived, every group showed their creation, and the
natives became the jury. That event was closed by announcing the champion.
Day 4, it was the last time meeting with
the natives. The participants did jodgging in the morning by walking to curug
sewu waterfall. There, they had games with the natives and it was a closing
season of the English camp. Started by speech of the commitee, command and
impression from the native, teacher, and students. It was afflict day for all.
Crying and sadness of students make the natives felt sad too. It was so
difficult to leave taking with the students. But that was the ime for natives
to go. The last, they took picture together in order to remember each other
although they are in different place or even will not meet each other for the
second time. But they hope that was not the last they meet.
The
good news is the leader of kendal English teacher has said, that English camp
is very good program for students and teachers to improve and develop English
skills. So the decission is this program will run continually. It means that
the participants still have a chance to meet the natives later.
